City Summit is Perth’s newest custom built climbing centre and we pride ourselves on making indoor rock climbing accessible to those who are new to rock climbing or who are inexperienced climbers. First of all you can be happy knowing that you are in safe hands. City Summit wants to make sure you have the most enjoyable experience at the centre so please let us know how we can help.
If you have a group of 10 or more participants then you will need to call to make a booking for your group. Any groups of under 10 people are welcome to drop into the centre at any time. Please note that inductions are generally held every half hour so it is advisable to arrive just before the hour or half hour to reduce wait times.
City Summit has a fully catered cafe and functions venue upstairs that serves great food and fresh yummy juices. Please refrain from bringing in your own food or sandwiches. If you require catering for a group booking or event then please phone in advance to arrange.
The best thing to wear while climbing is something comfortable and runners/sneakers for your footwear. If needed you can hire climbing shoes for $8 which will greatly improve your climbing ability. Climbers generally use chalk on their fingers while climbing. While this is not essential, it does greatly help with your grip and chalk bags are available to hire for $3.
An instructor will guide you on how to fit your harness and then give you a run down of the centre rules. You will be given a demonstration of how to correctly belay a climber using our Edelrid Megajul belay devices (safety is a priority). While the instructor supervises you to correctly belay, they will also offer the climber advice on how to navigate the climbing wall. The climbing induction will take approximate 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the group and how quickly each person picks up the belaying technique.
For those who have previously climbed, we will give you a quick run through of our belaying technique as it is different to the other gyms in Perth. Our belay of choice in the centre is now a Edelrid MegaJul as opposed to the usual Gri Gri.
Once you are comfortable and demonstrating correct techniques, you are free to explore the top rope climbing walls in the centre or try out the bouldering wall (a 6 meter high free climbing wall with safety mats below).
If you are feeling hungry you can head upstairs to the Summit Lounge Cafe to enjoy a healthy meal, light snack or freshly squeezed juice to keep you going. You can also check out the view from the mezzanine which overlooks the entire climbing gym.
