Kitepower Australia is a family owned business that has been selling, repairing and flying kites for the past 11 years. With stores in three locations: Sans Souci (Sydney), Clontarf (Brisbane) and our online store, we are proud to be Australia's largest retailer of Everything Kites and Kiteboarding.
Our main aims at Kitepower are to promote the awareness and joy of kite flying, through flying and selling kites, giving lessons, and attending kite festivals. We also support many kiting organizations including the Australian Kite Society; the Australian Kite Association; Australian Kite Surfing Association; the International Kiteboarding Organisation, and the Geelong and District Kite Club.
There is a certain happiness and joy that kite flying seems to bring to almost everyone I have met through kiting - from children with their first kite to experienced kite fliers, kite surfers and power kiters around the world who love to fly kites. I called this business Kitepower because of the powerful changes that occurred in my life when I finally found something I could love to do, and because of the changes that I have observed in so many other people, especially younger folks.
It was late 1991 when I was wandering through a trash and treasure market with my sons Peace and Goshen. We came across a stall selling a stunt kite called the Avenger, a 1.8m wingspan delta with kevlar lines. We did a deal and later that day went to the highest hill in town and the Avenger dragged us around all afternoon in this bumpy sheep paddock. We were hooked, so be warned, kite flying can be addictive! We decided to try to make a living from selling kites (around 11 years ago now), and we have since evolved into the largest family owned kite business in Australia. We grew out of our shop in Geelong, Victoria (near Bells Beach/Torquay) bought a store in Mooloolaba called Kite legends, sold it, with the intention to move back and expand the Geelong shop still being run by Goshen. We heard about a business for sale in Sydney, checked it out and bought it. Since then we have grown and have opened our third store in Sans Souci, Sydney, to specialise in kiteboarding and power kiting at this great location.
